Ronaldo had a better year than Messi, says Mijatovic

Goal - The former Serbia international has voiced his opinion that the Blancos attacker has done enough to pip last year's winner to the FIFA Ballon d'Or.

The story is too old to be commented.

"Better year" can be argued, individually Messi had a better year, but Ronaldo helped out Madrid much more than Messi helped Barca(within that year). Basically it comes down to your own philosophy on Ballon d oro, but I expect Messi to win it again, regardless of the fact that they didn't win la liga.

Basically what you just said and the fact that soo many people are on the messi bandwagon, if the people that vote would say that their vote is not influence whatsoever i would laugh.

Not sure what you were trying to say, but I EXPECT Messi to win, I don't RULE that he should be the winner decisively, no matter any "votes". Very different ideas there. So no, I don't discard people's votes or opinions on who's the best player. I have my own opinions based on what both have shown on the pitch. BTW, everything great has a few bandwagoners, doesn't necessarily take any merit away from a player or team.

I agree with you. I think a lot of it also has to do with Messi currently being the FIFA poster boy and a great ambassador of the sport.

Ronoldo IMO should win the title for everything he has done for Real Madrid. I can't see R. Madrid being where they are today without him. However Barcelona could be doing just as well without Messi. Barcelona has some of the greatest talent all on 1 single team. Because of the talent, they all contribute to raise Messi's accomplishments. Messi is a goal scorer and that is all that he has on his mind, he rarely creates plays, he finish's them simply due to his speed and those that set him up on the run. If you watched Messi's game against Benfica, Messi went for the goal right after getting injured instead of making a simply pass across the box to a wide open #27 (not sure who wears the number) who could have scored easily.

Ah well. In the end, it's great to have these types of debates.

Yeah, but nobody likes Ronaldo, so there you go :)

if were completely honest either of them are very good candidates for the winner both are on a completely different level in this world and were lucky to witness 2 players of such ability at the same time.

Both could walk into any team in the world and any team would welcome them.

the only shame is neither have lived up to their ability when it comes to international performances.

what you said is true, but then players like iniesta walk away with it when they couldn't justify why messi should win it. basically its a "we must never give it to ronaldo again" situation. but now with messi breaking that record, thats all they need to give him the award. if that's not enough, they can always give it to xavi. <just to acknowledge him like they did iniesta>. the only time FIFA or UEFA will acknowledge ronaldos true talent and skill is most likely if he passes away soon. then they'll make a whole tribute as to how great of a footballer he is. but while his alive, they'll just keep overlooking him.

as for them living up to their ability on the international stage, i think ronaldo has showed much more than messi on that stage. he has made it into semi finals/finals in the euros with portugal. messi hasn't made it that far with Argentina in the south american equivalent.

So the current sports director of Madrid thinks his star player deserves to be called best player in the world? What a surprise.

eferreira4141d ago

Ronaldo deserves it just alone for scoring a goal with one eye lol
