United's lineup didn't look particularly encouraging. Started with 5 defenders, 3 central midfielders and 2 strikers. I am not sure quite what Fergsuon was going for here. Rafael didn't even play right back, Smalling did. Kagawa was very poor because he had no decent support and was constantly isolated against 3 West Ham midfielders.

West Ham deserved at least the replay because Ferguson fiddled the side and it didn't work very well. West Ham played well and played to their strengths.

I hope he manages to field a better balanced side to win the replay at home but it is an extra game United don't need right now.

I've read that like three times now. What do you mean a replay?

If early round F.A cup ties do not end with an outright winner after 90 minutes the game is played again at a later date at the home ground of the other team this time. If there is still no winner after 90 then you have extra time and pens in the replay.
