I wouldn't say so, he came injured so a starting role wasn't going to happen. When he returned from injury he had competition for his role in the squad.
Alonso, Khedira (surprisingly), di Maria, Ozil and Ronaldo are the first choice midfield everyday of the week so he needed to show why he should replace these players in training and the odd game fit. He didn't and was a sub at best.
