As much as it is a strong argument there are many more reasons in addition as to why the Three Lions flop on the big stage. But the lack of a midfield genius in the centre of the pitch has been an increasing concern since at least Euro 2000.

He's never matchfit, no wonder he doesn't get any games. He should also quit smoking as his workrate is quite poor. I know his best position is not at the wing but there's no space in the LFC to accommodate Joe Cole, so he gets pushed to the wings. Nowadays a winger needs pace and can cross, Joe Cole struggles in that department. He had a chance to leave this summer but decided to stay and collect high wages. I have no sympathy
