Casillas out of Manchester United clash with broken thumb

The Spain international will be out of action for an estimated six weeks after breaking a thumb during his side's 1-1 draw with Valencia on Wednesday

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has been rocked by the news that captain Iker Casillas will be out for an estimated six weeks after breaking his thumb during the 1-1 draw with Valencia on Wednesday. (Iker Casillas, Injuries, Manchester United, Real Madrid)

Tragedy, Casillas' injury could be the deciding factor in the tie or maybe it could be Adan's time to shine?!

Remember, Casillas came into the first team regularly due to an injury to his then senior because in the early 00s.

I'm sure they must be thinking about getting a new goalkeeper thing is, who would want to be Casillas' sub once he recovers.

Also Casillas is 31, at his age I really hope this isn't a career threatening injury considering keepers rely a lot on their hands. This is not good news for Madrid or the national squad so if any Barca/Spain fan is happy about this, remember he was a crucial part in those shiny trophies the national squad has won these past years.

Madrid just signed former number 2 in Diego Lopez on a 4 year deal. Casillas' injury seems worse than originally thought as he could miss 12 weeks of action. That'll put him out of both Copa games against Barca and both Champions League games against Manchester United.

The real shame here is Adan hasn't been given the opportunity to shine. This is the problem with Mourinho; Jese hasn't been given a chance, nor Morata (enough of a chance) or Nacho and yes he played Adan a few times but that was to give Casillas competition. This move makes me wonder why he hasn't given Adan the number 1 spot for at least the next 3 months. If anything Real need a decent number 2 and Jesus isn't decent yet so Lopez or Adan will play that roll, time will tell who will and will either of them be happy. :/
