I think it's the fear factor. England's players are so scared of failing or making a mistake and becoming the villain that they never try anything in a match, everything is rigid and forced and painful to watch. Of course someone will pipe up and say it's not because of fear it's because they're crap but go back and look at the Algeria match from the last World Cup, even Algeria outplayed England simply because they saw a gap and passed through it, saw an opening and tried a dribble, England's players are too fearful to try that or anything risky.
