I personally think it was Messi's great start to his career that pushed Ronaldo. He was in Messi's shadow for many years even after he arrived at Madrid. Starting last season, he has really stepped it up and is arguably the better player at the moment.
that is true to an extent but i think from the start ronaldo pushed himself to be the best.
when he first started at united he was compared to kaka (who was the best player at the time), then ronaldinho and when he "bettered" both (to a certain extent. skills wise, dinho is will always reign supreme), messi came along and forced ronaldo to work his ass off to be the best once again.
but no doubt, messi will want to be top dog coz he knows he can do it.
2 all time greats in one generation...dont think this will happen for another lifetime.
