After two unconvincing outings in La Liga, Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid finally stepped up a gear with a much improved performance to beat Ajax 2-0 in their opening Champions League Group G encounter.
Los Merengues peppered the visiting goal with 35 shots, 15 of which were on target, but needed two Gonzalo Higuain strikes to seal the three points.
It was no surprise to see Madrid push forward early on and dominate proceedings. A nice exchange of passes between Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Oezil teed up Sami Khedira for the first crack on goal, but the German’s shot from 20 yards was easily gathered by Martin Stekelenburg.
Gonzalo Higuain then rippled the net on 12 minutes when he brought down Xabi Alonso’s long ball expertly, but his stinging low drive only smacked the side netting.
Real totally dominated Ajax everyone play good except from Ronaldo he just a had a bad night, but Real are growing as a team there way better at the back with Pepe and Carvalho
