Spaniard himself cited club's owners for Reds' poor league finish.
Sir Alex Ferguson feels Rafael Benitez was responsible for Liverpool’s decline in form last season.
Under the Spaniard’s reign, Liverpool finished a disappointing seventh last term and new manager Roy Hodgson has a difficult task of steering the club back into the Champions League places.
Benitez suggested last season that the team’s plight was down to the restricted funds he had to operate with, but Ferguson believes the slump at Anfield could be down to their former manager.
"I don't know if finishing seventh last season after being second behind us the year before had anything to do with the financial position," Ferguson told reporters.
