Marseille Still Alive

A lone Souleymane Diawara header was enough to give Marseille victory over MSK Zilina and earn their first points in Group F.

The home team had an early scare as Zilina had a penalty appeal after Momodou Ceesay looked to have been fouled by Diawara, but Marseille survived that heart in mouth moment and went on to dominate the rest of the half.

Chance after chance fell the way of the hosts with first Mathieu Valbuena putting a volley well over, then Andre-Pierre Gignac having a wonderful strike palmed away by Martin Dubravka. Jordan Ayew had the best opportunity as Valbuena burst down the right and cut back a cross for the Ghanaian but his effort went just wide.

The story is too old to be commented.
