Born Marcel van Basten on 31 October 1964, in the Dutch city of Utrecht, Oranje legend Marco van Basten began playing football with local side EDO aged just seven, where his extraordinary talent soon came to the fore.
One year later the budding striker moved to UVV Utrecht, where he spent almost his entire youth career before following that with a brief spell at Elinkwijk Utrecht. Yet it was following his switch to Ajax, who signed him prior to the 1981/82 season, that he developed into one of the greatest strikers of all time.
