Mystery over Wilkins departure from Chelsea

Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has left the club after his contract with the Premier League champions was not renewed, though the reasons for his departure are at this time unclear.

Wilkins' third spell with Chelsea - the club where he started his playing career - began in 2008 when he was appointed as Luiz Felipe Scolari's assistant.

He often took up the role of Scolari's spokesman and was named caretaker boss when the Brazilian was sacked, before reverting to assistant manager under both Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti.
