Platt defends under-fire Mancini

Manchester City assistant-manager David Platt has leapt to the defence of under-pressure boss Roberto Mancini after his team were booed off following another goalless draw at Eastlands.

Mancini has come under fire from the fans for being far too negative and was derided for replacing striker Carlos Tevez with defensive midfielder Gareth Barry during Saturday's 0-0 draw against Birmingham.

The Italian manager's questionable decision followed on from a hugely defensive display in the derby stalemate against Manchester United in midweek and was greeted with chants of "what is going on" from the stands.
