The Philadelphia Union acquired midfielder Brian Carroll on Monday from the Columbus Crew in exchange for a conditional second-round pick in the 2011 Major League Soccer SuperDraft and allocation money.
Carroll, 29, joined the Crew before the 2008 season and started all but one of his 84 games played. He helped the Crew win two Supporters' Shields (2008 and 2009), one MLS Cup (2008), and one U.S. Open Cup (2010).
