Well he did have contact with the ball with his hand in the area, so yeah I guess that is punishable. However, it was in no way intentional so it was up to the ref to decide.
Yea, you the ref had a hard time on this one- after all I think its a fair penalty- its his intention to stop the ball by sliding- thats why he keeps his hands on the ground (he didnt fall or anything). So I think its a penalty.-
