As has been the case most of the time in the past couple of years, only few teams from the smaller footballing nations have survived the group stage of the Champions League. Ukranian giants Shakhtar Donestk finished ahead of Arsenal to win their group, while Copenhagen shrugged off competition of Rubin Kazan and Panathinaikos to finish second behind Barcelona.
