If ever an image summed up the contrast between the dedication of Ryan Giggs and the indifference of those who have fallen by the wayside during his 20 years in Manchester United’s first team, it came at the DW Stadium on Saturday.
Giggs, nursing the tight hamstring which forced him to miss the 4-0 victory against Wigan, was pictured watching the game intently from the directors’ box. Alongside the Welshman, Bebe stared down at his mobile phone and the headphone-wearing Gabriel Obertan fiddled with his iPod. United's two young wingers clearly wanted to be somewhere else, yet it is impossible to imagine Giggs displaying such nonchalance at any stage of his glittering career.
