Pele reveals nerves ahead of Copa Libertadores decider and claims Diego Maradona adores him

One-hundred-and-eighty minutes failed to separate Penarol and Santos in the Copa Libertadores 1962 final. Tension, therefore, heightened heading into a decider on neutral ground.

Pele had missed those two legs through injury, and though he had already starred in a World Cup final at the age of just 17, the then 21-year-old felt the nerves ahead of kick-off in Buenos Aires. It didn't show, though, with the No.10 scoring twice to help Santos defeat the Uruguayans 3-0 and lift the trophy for the first time.

The story is too old to be commented.
