Zinedine Zidane has hailed an 'exceptional generation' of Barcelona youth players as the reason for the side's success, but defended the set-up at Real Madrid, where he starred as a player and now works as a special adviser.
... it's been the result of Cruyff's vision of having a brilliant youth-academy so you can raise and teach your own players in the own style of play.
If Madrid is smart, they would stop throwing away many millions of bucks on buying big-name 'galacticos', and invest a bit more money in their own youth-academy, so they can reap the benefits of doing so in 10-15 years.
Gotta disagree with you Yi-Long. Remember when Barca were struggling in the late 90's to early 2000's ? They threw tons of money on the transfer market? Kluivert, Saviola, Rivaldo, Marc Overmars, Ronaldinho, Deco, Etoo...just to name a few It was Ronaldinho who started this successful era. I'm not saying Barca don't produce good players, but this generation, like Zidane said, is exceptional.
...and Real Madrid are lucky to have the finances to pay for whoever they want, whether their worth it or not.
