Chelsea 'paid too much' for striker Fernando Torres, says former defender Frank Leboeuf

Leboeuf, who spent five seasons at Stamford Bridge, also believes Chelsea's record-breaking £50-million January signing from Liverpool is overrated.

“Nowadays we make somebody a star because they play well for six months," Leboeuf said in an interview with the Daily Star.

... and too many clubs seem to focus on 'hype' and 'popularity' of a certain player so they can please their supporters with an expensive big-name signing, instead of properly scouting and buying an up and coming talented striker for a fraction of the money.

Torres (Inform) > Hernandez who cant even time a run properly, he runs like a spaz and his runs when made are awful, all his goals are 2ft tap ins, he cant beat defenders, has no technical ability, would be useless without support from Giggs and Nani etc and he cant pass

i think man city inflated the market by paying over the odds for average players.. and billionaire owners only care about the short term rather than the long term so they wont invest in youth and all the constant manager changes mean that academy players get overlooked... its a shame and hopefully will change soon..

torres should have been 20mil max
