Newcastle manager Pardew plays down talk of Champions League place after victory over Stoke City

"This is a really good Stoke side," said Pardew. "The way they play makes it difficult and we had to show great character. We showed another side to ourselves: great resilience.

"We set ourselves to attack the game and we threatened on the break."

Pardew played down talk of a Champions League place, knowing that Newcastle now enter a testing period: after entertaining Everton, Newcastle make trips to Manchester City and Manchester United before Chelsea come calling.
