He's been kept out of the reserves/youth team by a 16 year old Rekik at City definitely the better of the 2 however he's not too bad definitely didn't look like a top 4 player far from it really. I know he's young but he wasn't a top prospect and this transfer is surprising. Thought he would end up at a lower league or championship team.
He isn't a top top european talent but he could be useful and is still young. I think he left City seeing the total lack of opportunities he will have in the next few years. He probably fancies his chances at United once Ferdinand is finished and Vidic is no spring chicken at 30 either.
Naturally Smalling and Jones are seen as the long term future of United's central defence but with O Shea and Brown leaving, it opens the way for him to get games in the first team within a couple years as a backup/squad player if he performs well.
