Euro 2012: Predicting Every Game in Group B

0 of 7

Who ya got in the Group of Death?

Group B is widely considered Euro 2012's hardest, with Germany, Holland and Portugal bringing squads capable of competing for glory. Denmark, currently FIFA's 10th-ranked team, round out the group.

Today, we're predicting every match in Group B. Who did we pick to advance?

    Keep reading to find out.

Netherlands-Denmark

1 of 7

Details: June 9, Metalist Stadium, Kharkiv, Ukraine

Facing pressure to replicate their run to the World Cup final in 2010, the Dutch will start slowly in the first half against Denmark.

After a shock Danish opener through Christian Eriksen, Holland will fight back with goals from Robin van Persie (pictured) and Wesley Sneijder in the second half.

Despite the loss, Denmark will feel that their chances have been boosted by a strong opening performance.

    But will it be enough?

Germany-Portugal

2 of 7

Details: June 9, Arena Lviv, Lviv, Ukraine

The first marquee matchup in the Group of Death will end in a stalemate.

Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured) will prove a handful for the German defense, and he'll score the game's opening goal with a trademark free-kick.

But Germany will fight back, with Ronaldo's Real Madrid teammate, Mesut Ozil, leading the creative offensive push.

An Ozil through-ball will set up second-half substitute Miroslav Klose for the equalizer.

The 1-1 draw will satisfy neither team, but both will be happy to have avoided defeat.

Denmark-Portugal

3 of 7

Details: June 13, Arena Lviv, Lviv, Ukraine

With each team feeling optimistic after their opening matches, both will crash back to earth following a dour, tactical affair on the second match-day.

The Danes will focus on stopping Cristiano Ronaldo, and their defensive tactics will frustrate the Portuguese.

But Denmark won't be able to score either.

A scoreless draw will leave both teams needing a positive result on the final match-day.

Netherlands-Germany

4 of 7

Details: June 13, Metalist Stadium, Kharkiv, Ukraine

Germany will face their second marquee matchup in as many games, but this time, they'll come away with all three points.

Once again, though, the Germans will fall behind in the first half. This time, Van Persie will do the damage and will (in a moment of Schadenfreude for Arsenal supporters) increase his transfer value even more in the process.

But Ozil (pictured) will inspire another German comeback, with Lukas Podolski equalizing and Klose (with his second goal) scoring the late winner.

The 2-1 win for Germany gives both teams hope heading into the final match-day.

Portugal-Netherlands

5 of 7

Details: June 17, Metalist Stadium, Kharkiv, Ukraine

The final two Group B matches will kick off simultaneously, and all four teams will still be alive.

In the Portugal-Netherlands match, both teams' superstars will perform.

Shaking off his disappointing club form this past season, Wesley Sneijder will fire the Dutch into a first-half lead, but Cristiano Ronaldo will equalize in the second half.

Portugal will push for a winner, but Holland's defense will hold on—though not without drama.

The 1-1 draw will send the Dutch into the quarterfinals and Portugal home.

Denmark-Germany

6 of 7

Details: June 17, Arena Lviv, Lviv, Ukraine

For once, the Germans won't have to come from behind. Instead, Die Mannschaft will strike twice early and end this match as a spectacle.

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels (pictured) will score the first goal from a corner, and Ozil will finally score one for himself later in the first half.

The 2-0 win will send Germany into the quarterfinals as Group B champions and eliminate Denmark.

Projected Group B Table

7 of 7

Below is my projected Group B table.

Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
    Germany 3 2 1 0 5 2 3 7
    Netherlands 3 1 1 1 4 4 0 4
    Portugal 3 0 3 0 2 2 0 3
    Denmark 3 0 1 2 1 4 -3 1

In my projected table, Germany would advance as Group B winners and the Netherlands as runners-up.
