Arsenal Transfer Rumor: Robert Lewandowski Could Be Heading to Arsenal

Recently, Arsenal fans' ears have been hit with the bad news that Gunners skipper, Robin van Persie doesn't have intentions on extending his contract with Arsenal. 

Very recently, Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski have confirmed deals with Arsenal and will be playing in red and white next season. Lukas Podolski will probably be seen manipulating play along the left wing, while Giroud will be playing upfront.

With the news of van Persie's contract, it is good that Arsenal managed to get an additional forward.

However, will Giroud be enough upfront?

In the Daily Mail, it was reported that Arsenal had scouts observing Robert Lewandowski during the past season. Lewandowski is a young promising player; he is only 23 years of age. So, Arsenal could be looking to bring in the striker in addition to Giroud and Podolski as an extra force with van Persie potentially leaving.

This is only a rumor though. One must not believe an Arsenal rumor until a deal is confirmed and is actually announced by the club. There have been many cases where Arsenal have been linked with a player, but a deal has never been agreed between Arsenal and the other club.

With this, Lewandowski could be a very effective player at Arsenal and could adapt quickly to the speed and physicality of the Premier League to be even more effective as a player. He has great weapons that could help him strive in the Premier League.

In the recent Euro tournament, Lewandowski managed to score the first goal of the tournament, which was against Greece. He managed to give a solid header, which made the ball bounce into the goal. 

Arsenal is a team that has been lacking aerial threats.

Recently, they acquired Olivier Giroud, and he presents a big aerial threat as he is nearly 6'4". Then, Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen can score the occasional header off of a set piece, but it isn't enough. 

A player like Lewandowski offers the striker package at a young age, and this is a player that could help Arsenal in the long run. 

In the past season for Borussia Dortmund, the Polish footballer scored 30 goals in 46 appearances for the German champions. He was also the Bundesliga Player of the Year last season for the German club.

This player is strong, fast and has a great eye for goal; 22 of his 30 season goals came in the Bundesliga itself. He wasn't able to score amongst the likes of Klaas-Jan Huntelar or Mario Gomez, but for the age of 23, he did well.

If the Lewandowski were to join Arsenal, he wouldn't be the only Polish player there. He would have international teammates Wojciech Szczesny and Lukas Fabianski (if he doesn't leave), as teammates at Arsenal.

That would help immensely with fitting in and adapting to life at the North London club. The atmosphere is also such that a player feels comfortable immediately at the club. It might take him a bit of time to adapt to play at Arsenal, but it shouldn't be a huge problem for a player of Lewandowski's calibre.

And who knows, maybe his presence might boost Szczesny and Fabianski to up the ante in their play.

In addition, he could also combine with Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, players who will most likely start next season, to form one of the best attacking trios in the Premier League.

With other clubs like Chelsea, who will be having Eden Hazard on their squad and are battling to sign Hulk, and Manchester United who have acquired Shinji Kagawa, Arsenal will need some attacking depth of their own if they are to compete with the other competition of the Premier League.

Ultimately, he would be a great signing.

So, could Robert Lewandowski be playing in Arsenal colors next season? If so, would he be able to make a significant impact with the Gunners? And, if van Persie leaves, could he help to fill the void that the Dutchman would have left behind?
