Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Rounding Up Possible Moves to Bolster Gunners' Squad

If there's one thing Arsenal can't afford to lose, it's goal scoring. 

Unfortunately for the Gunners, it might be time to chalk one up in the loss column. 

In a statement posted on his personal website on July 4, Robin van Persie, the Gunners' premier scorer, said:

"I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward. I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract." 

That news couldn't be more devastating for an Arsenal club that failed to have anyone but Van Persie score more than eight goals last season.

In fact, van Persie's 30 goals accounted for 41 percent of the Gunners' scoring totals—an astounding number for a team that conceded 49 goals. 

With No. 10 seemingly on his way out, it'll be a monumental challenge to find his replacement, or better yet, replacements.

One player who's emerged as a possible offensive piece for Arsenal is Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic. 

The 22-year-old Montenegrin is a supremely-skilled striker who is well-known for his dribbling and scoring qualities. 

In 101 appearances for Fiorentina, Jovetic has scored 27 goals, but nailed 19 in 33 appearances for Partizan from 2005-2008. 

According to Sami Mokbel of The Daily Mail, Jovetic is one of two players targeted by Arsenal scouts since last season. 

The other player who could provide a scoring boost is striker Robert Lewandowski. 

The Polish native also has youth on his side (23 years old) and recently put up a 30-goal season of his own while playing for Borussia Dortmund. 

Either player would be a decent replacement for Arsenal's top goal scorer. 

Beyond replacing Van Persie, the Gunners are also looking to bolster their midfield by possibly acquiring Etienne Capoue. 

The 23-year-old would be the consolation prize after Arsenal appears to be out of the running for Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila. 

According to Jason Le Miere of The International Business Times, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has Capoue near the top of list of targets now that a potential deal with M'Vila doesn't appear likely. 

Capoue isn't of the same caliber as M'Vila, but is no slouch in his own right.

The younger brother of Boulogne player Aurelein Capoue is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or a defender and has been an active member of the French national team as a youth. 

Adding the French native would be a solid boost for the Gunners, but it won't be a one-team race.

According to talksport.co.uk, Barcelona is battling Arsenal to sign the talented Frenchman to replace Seydou Keita, who recently joined Chinese club Dalian Aerbin.

For the Gunners, Capoue would be a huge get, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding its best player.

With Arsenal poised to lose its best offensive threat, there will certainly be no shortage of counter-moves to keep the club competitive.
