Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Reportedly Making One Last Bid for Victor Moses

Chelsea will make one final offer for Wigan Athletic midfielder Victor Moses as it seeks to bring the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge over the summer transfer window.

After being linked to the Blues throughout the summer, Moses is believed to be the subject of a final take it or leave it offer of around £7-8 million according to The Daily Mail.

Chelsea are preparing a final £7.5 million offer for wantaway Wigan's Victor Moses, 21. The European champions have had three bids turned down with Wigan holding out for £10 million.

Moses has a year left on his contract, but Wigan would be due compensation if he leaves next season given he is under 24. 

Chelsea has already confirmed that despite the acquisitions of Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Oscar already this summer, it will look to bring in two more players—according to a report in The Independent.

And if latest reports are to be believed, Moses could well be one of those players that Chelsea are looking to add to its squad for the upcoming English Premier League season.

If this were any other club, you'd be likely to point out that it seems a little bit of an overkill on the offensive side and that Chelsea would be better off trying to boost its defense for next season—particularly on the right hand side of the field.

However, this is Roman Abramovich we're talking about here.

Overkill is not an option.

Should Chelsea pick up Moses from Wigan over the transfer window, he would join the likes of Fernando Torres, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Marko Marin, Frank Lampard and Romelu Lukaku to create one of the strongest and deepest squads on the continent.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. 

Chelsea are likely to play more than 60 matches this season once you factor in English Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League matches and having a deep, strong squad will be pertinent to its chances in all three competitions.

Players like Moses—good, fresh, attacking youngsters—are needed to give Chelsea's other players a rest and adequate recovery time so that the squad can function at its highest level.

He is unlikely to assume a starting role in the Blues' side, and thus the question becomes as to whether he desires a move to Stamford Bridge as a substitute or whether he wants to stay at Wigan Athletic as a star player.

On Chelsea's end, it seems keen to wrap up a deal with the 21-year-old, and you can understand why. He is exciting, he is fast and he has the skills needed to succeed in the English Premier League for many years to come.

The big question mark that remains for me is as to whether Moses wants to join the Blues' substitutes or whether he'd prefer to remain at Wigan. 

That question holds the key to any deal taking place between the two parties, as well as whether Wigan are willing to sell their star player to one of the richest clubs in Europe for a couple of million less than they would ideally like to.
