Arsenal Transfer Report: Robin Van Persie Now Wants to Stay at Arsenal

In news that will either delight or anger Arsenal fans depending on their opinion of the man, it seems that Robin van Persie has now performed a sensational U-turn on his decision to leave the club.

British tabloid The Mirror is currently reporting that, now that the Dutchman's supposed issues with the club's lack of ambition have been answered, he may sign a new contract after all.

With boss Arsene Wenger having already brought in forwards Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud this summer, and now looking to add Spanish attacking midfielder Santi Cazorla and Turkish playmaker Nuri Sahin, van Persie is relishing playing with the new-look team.

There will still be doubts over whether or not club and player can reach an agreement over a contract, but the news represents the first step forward in a long-running saga that has seemed to loom over North London since the end of last season.

But if this cannot be done, the possibility remains that a new deal can be agreed before January, and if not, the club can choose to move the star striker then.

The report also claims that Wenger is considering a £7 million move for Ajax's Gregory van der Wiel, a known Chelsea target.

With only a year left on his contract, the Dutch club are eager to move the wing-back on if they cannot reach an agreement over extending his contract.

Arsenal's recent moves in the transfer window have silenced many who have claimed that the club are no longer as ambitious as previously thought.
