Arsenal wantaway Robin van Persie looks likely to remain at Arsenal for the upcoming season after no potential suitors have come forward with decent-enough offers for the Gunners to sell the Dutch international.

After sensationally declaring that he will not re-sign his contract with the club at the end of the season, Van Persie looks set for an uncomfortable return to Arsenal—poised to return for the club in a preseason friendly in Cologne, according to Metro.

Even more so, according to latest reports, the Dutchman is believed to have been impressed by Arsenal's spending so far in the summer transfer window.

The club has picked up Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and now Santi Cazorla, and according to the Daily Star, those acquisitions have resonated well with the wantaway striker:

Arsenal are hopeful Robin van Persie will stay at the club and sign a new contract. The Dutchman has been hugely impressed by efforts made to boost the Gunners squad, which was strengthened further yesterday by the capture of Spain international Santi Carzola.

He will be joined on the trip by Van Persie, with the club becoming increasingly optimistic he can be persuaded to abandon his plans to move.

The mood at Arsenal has been lifted by Wenger taking decisive action in the transfer market, with the squad well-aware that Cazorla is a major talent.

Van Persie is believed to be coming round to the idea of staying, with a feeling spreading through the camp that they can be serious title challenges.

Should the comments mentioned above turn out to be true, it seems the most speculated, talked-about, discussed and rumored topic over the summer transfer window so far could all be for nothing.

Robin van Persie could well stay at Arsenal—particularly if interest in the Dutch striker continues to wane as it has done recently.

According to the Daily Mirror, Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United have all dropped their interest in the Gunners captain due to his wage demands as well as Arsenal's transfer fee—leaving Arsenal as the only viable destination for Van Persie to return to next season.

Which, for the Gunners, can mean only good news.

Not only do they get to keep Van Persie for the upcoming season and establish themselves as genuine title contenders in both England and in Europe, but this turn of events also provides them with another 10 or so months until the summer transfer window opens next season—allowing ample time to negotiate a new contract with their star striker.

Van Persie's inclusion in Arsenal for the Premier League this year is a huge boost for Arsenal and a testament to the transfer window that Arsene Wenger has has so far.

Maybe the club is moving in the direction Van Persie wanted after all—toward the English Premier League title and away from their seven-year drought.

Will Robin van Persie remain at Arsenal this year?
