It looks like the Robin van Persie transfer saga may be coming to a close in the very near future, as the striker seems left with two options—stay at Arsenal or go to Manchester United.

The change comes from comments made by Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini. When asked about a potential move for RvP in an interview with Sky Sport Italia, Mancini said (via ESPN Soccernet), "Van Persie? No, I don't think he will come here."

After van Persie apparently told Arsenal he would not re-sign with the club on his website a month ago, a three-way battle for the transfer of the Dutchman erupted between Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Italian club has continued to pursue RvP, but previously suggested that last year's leading scorer in the Premier League could be out of their reach (per ESPN Soccernet).

Mancini's comments distancing City from the pursuit thus leaves Manchester United as the only potential suitors for van Persie.

According to the Guardian, United already had a bid for Robin van Persie rejected by Arsenal two weeks ago. Apparently, the offer did not match the £20 million for the Gunners' captain.

Of course, none of this means that the striker beloved by Gooners everywhere is destined to play at Old Trafford.

After all, the Mirror reported a rumour just yesterday that RvP changed his mind about leaving Arsenal and plans on staying at the Emirates.

On the other hand, other portions of the press have been reporting that United are set to swoop in for van Persie (per the International Business Times).

Either way, this remains the most important storyline of the summer transfer window.

The result could decide the 2012-13 Premier League title.
