Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders: 6 Things We Learned

Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy are building a reputation of being the masochists of Major League Soccer. It is a creepy, scary, unenviable dishonor bestowed on them by those who have a penchant for woodshed.

One of those bestowers is Sigi Schmid's Seattle Sounders, who played their most complete game of the season and whipped, hung, drawn, quartered and burned the Los Angeles Galaxy to ashes to the tune of 4-0 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Wash. on Sunday night.

With the defeat, Los Angeles falls to 10-11-3 (33 points), while Seattle continue their pursuit of the San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake with a record of 10-5-7 (37 points).

Here are six things we learned from this one-sided affair.

In the six things we learned from L.A.'s match with Real Madrid, one of the things is that the Galaxy did not play with a sense of purpose or pride against Los Blancos. Saturday's tail-whooping was another example of zero effort from L.A. 

Sure, the Galaxy had better possession (56.8 percent to 43.2 percent), had more open play crosses (26 to 10), had more corners (eight to one) and won more duels (51 percent to 48 percent), but teams that play with pride and purpose dominate categories like shots on target (six to two) and passing accuracy (84 percent to 82 percent).

The Sounders are an example of a team that plays the game the way it should be played: with pride and purpose every week, and that's why they earned all three points.

The back line of L.A. is guilty of playing one of its worst games of the season, and no player has done worse than David Junior Lopes, who will be lucky to be on the Galaxy next season.

Lopes played at level comparable to the fourth division of American soccer and was turned so easily that he never knew he was being turned until Josh Saunders surrendered one of L.A.'s four goals.

If Lopes indeed has a future with L.A., it might as well be the end of days in terms of the Galaxy's relevance in this league.

Eddie Johnson has been on fire as a member of the Seattle Sounders, and he scored his ninth goal of the season just six minutes into the contest.

If there's one person on the Seattle team who knows how to light a match and fan the flames, it's Johnson, and he did that on Saturday.

Fredy Montero, a fan favorite of the Seattle Sounders, scored his fifth goal of the season in the 52nd minute of play.

This Colombian has not been producing as many goals as he would have wanted to, so this performance will give him the drive needs to produce more goals as a member of the Sounders.

Mauro Rosales has been the top provider for the Sounders since the season got started. And he was as advertised, delivering assists to Eddie Johnson and Andy Rose.

Rosales will need to continue to provide his magic to the Sounders because Real Salt Lake and San Jose are setting a blinding pace in the MLS Western Conference as we speak.

The future of the Seattle Sounders is going to look very bright when you have the the type of depth that can score on any opponent on any given day.

Two of those players are Alex Caskey (pictured) and Andy Rose. Caskey opened his scoring account on a rebound off a poorly saved ball by Josh Saunders in the 61st minute. As for Rose, he also opened his scoring account in the 89th minute of play on a breakaway.

Alex Caskey and Andy Rose. Remember those two names. These two players are the future of the Sounders, and they're just getting started in delivering their magic to the Pacific Northwest.
