Inter Milan Transfers: Top 5 Successors to Wesley Sneijder

Wesley Sneijder doesn’t want to leave Inter Milan, but question marks surrounding his long-term future with the Nerazzurri still linger.

Last month, Inter manager Andrea Stramaccioni admitted that the Dutchman would be sold for the right price (according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via ESPN):

As far as I know, he is an Inter player and will stay here. Apart from that, I'm sure that if an offer comes in like that for Ibrahimović or Thiago Silva then anyone can be sold.

If Sneijder’s body breaks down like it has in the past, Inter may be forced to cut their losses by selling him in January.

Here are the top five successors to Sneijder.

Christian Eriksen can evade tackles in a Brian Laudrup-esq manner whilst having the expansive passing range to produce through balls reminiscent of Michael Laudrup.

These are Eriksen’s tangibles, but his intangibles are questionable. For example, he was weighed down by the expectations of being a bonafide star at Euro 2012. As the spotlight focused in on the 20-year-old, he shrunk, which allowed Nigel de Jong and Mark van Bommel to bully the Dane around.

Eriksen is only 20, but he needs to produce in difficult situations. Otherwise he’ll be the Dane’s answer to Álvaro Recoba.

Younès Belhanda has the self-belief and the talent to become a household name like Eden Hazard.

There’s a bit of Tarik Sektioui in Belhanda because the 22-year-old is a showman. 

With Hazard plying his trade in the Premier League, Belhanda is a front-runner to be the next Ligue 1 Player of the Year.

Belhanda was immense last season, especially when he scored a brace in a 3-1 win over Marseille.

Christian Eriksen this, Christian Eriksen that—what about Filip Djuricic?

Just because Djuricic plays for Heerenveen doesn’t mean he’s less talented than Eriksen. The Serbian’s potential is just as high as Eriksen's.

Towards the end of the season, Djuricic scored twice and created five goals during a five-game stretch.

Several days ago against Rapid Bucureşti, it was odd to see him up front, but he looked a class above everyone else as he scored twice.

Marco van Basten becoming Heerenveen manager may elevate Djuricic’s career to the next level.

The only thing stopping Isco from becoming a world-class player is himself.

His zeal to win has seen him explode in João Pinto-esq fashion from time to time. Isco’s last two red cards have been pointless, but on both occasions, his teammates held on for three points.

Temperament aside, Isco is a magnificent prospect with high upside.  

Málaga are in dire financial straits, so it would be a wise decision for Inter Milan to raid the Spanish club for Isco.

If Inter Milan ditches Wesley Sneijder, they don’t need to buy a successor because they have Coutinho.

The 20-year-old can play in several attacking positions, but he’s at his best as a No. 10. That being said, he produced some breathtaking performances as a left attacking midfielder during a loan spell for Espanyol.
