Not content with being the fastest man on the planet, 100 metres Olympic champion Usain Bolt has now set his sights becoming a footballer once he retires from athletics.

Not only that, he reckons he's got what it takes to play for Manchester United.

"People think I am joking, but if Sir Alex Ferguson called me up and said 'Okay, let's do this. Come and have a trial', it would be impossible for me to say no," he said.

Now United defender Rio Ferdinand has promised to arrange a trial for the Jamaican sprinter.

So could he really make it and become a star for the Red Devils? As Lloyd Grossman would say, let's look at the (video) evidence.

The 25-year-old is certainly not coy about his chances. Here he is outlining his ambition, and assessing his chances. "I definitely think I'm good enough to play for Manchester United," he says modestly.

Clearly he hadn't heard anything from Old Trafford so here he is taking matters into his own hands. "Alex Ferguson watch... today is my trial," he says, before telling the camera man: "Make sure Alex Ferguson gets this tape, ok?"

The life of a top line professional footballer is now as much about performing tricks in front of a green screen for your latest multi-million pound advertising deal as it is about banging the goals in on a wet Tuesday night in Stoke.

The Lightning Bolt proves he has that covered with this clip:

And here he is taking time out from his usual training to show off his ball control:

Unsurprisingly for a man accustomed to performing in front of Olympic-sized crowds, Bolt shows in this clip he is perfectly at home on the big stage as he brings the ball out onto the pitch at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Dealing with the men in black is a key skill for a modern footballer, but Usain has already met the best in the business. Here he is with Italian referee Pierluigi Collina before kick off for the Ultimate Champions match between Bayern Munich and The World All-Stars earlier this summer.

Has he got the cool head needed to bury a Champions League winning penalty when the world is watching? Well he's seen Didier Drogba do it, and there's no one cooler than Usain, so probably.

Of course throughout the week Manchester United players spend their mornings at the club's Carrington training ground, being put through their paces by Sir Alex Ferguson and his coaches. Turns out Bolty has already found his way there and met the players and the manager. He's practically already in the team. Go on Fergie - sign him up!
