Lukas Podolski scores twice in Arsenal 4-0's victory over Köln
Andy Carroll scores for Liverpool in win over Bayer Leverkusen

Robin van Persie came off the bench but received a muted welcome from the travelling Arsenal fans as the club ended their pre-season preparations with an emphatic 4-0 win at Köln.

Thomas Vermaelen opened the scoring before Lukas Podolski scored twice against his former club, the first a penalty, to make it 3-0 at half-time. Gervinho added to the lead before Van Persie took the captain's armband off Vermaelen for the game's final quarter.

A goal from the out-of-favour Andy Carroll capped a comfortable 3-1 victory for Liverpool over Bayer Leverkusen at Anfield. It took only three minutes for the 17-year-old Raheem Sterling to put the home side ahead and Lucas Leiva doubled the lead before the half-hour following a well-worked free-kick.

Twenty minutes into the second half a routine shot from Carroll was fumbled into the back of his net by Bernd Leno, before Gonzalo Castro scored for the visitors with 15 minutes left.

In the Capital One Cup Morecambe caused an upset as they beat neighbouring Blackpool 2-1 at Bloomfield Road. Lewis Alessandra's sixth-minute goal put the visitors on the way before Andy Fleming doubled the lead shortly after half-time. Matt Phillips hit a post for the home side before Alex Baptiste reduced the deficit with 13 minutes left. Phillips then hit a post for a second time in the 89th minute but Morecambe held on.
