Germany vs. Argentina: Score, Twitter Reaction and Analysis for Friendly
August 15, 2012Germany certainly didn't look like a world power in Wednesday's friendly against Argentina, giving up a couple of goals and scoring on the wrong side of the field in the 3-1 defeat.
Of course, Argentina's Lionel Messi made an imprint on the game, scoring in the 52nd minute.Β
As for Germany, Sami Khedira had a nightmare of a match, scoring an own goal. Defender Benedikt Howedes cut into the deficit later, but it was too little, too late.
Here's a look at how it all unfolded.
Score: Argentina 3, Germany 1
Argentina Scoring
Sami Khedira 45+1' (OG)
Lionel Messi 52'
Angel Fabian di Maria 73'
Germany Scoring
Benedikt Howedes 81'

Germany's Sami Khedira scored a goal that I'm guessing he wants back:

Twitter Reaction
It certainly wasn't a good start for Germany, as Messi Stats pointed out:
HT Germany 0-1 Argentina (Khedira scored an own goal, Messi missed a penalty, Germany down to ten men #gerarg

Mundo Albiceleste gave a recap of the second goal, courtesy of Lionel Messi:
Fantastic combination between AGUERO, HIGUAIN (lovely back pass) and MESSI who hits it first time towards the near post. 2-0 ARG

However, it is worth noting that Argentina missed a few chances with Germany a man down in the second half, as Tommy Smyth of ESPN noted:
Messi misses from the spot again.argentina up a man dont look all that good.

Analysis
Germany didn't look particularly sharp in the friendly on Wednesday, accentuated by Sami Khedira's own goal midway through the match.
Argentina was able to ease to a 3-1 victory, with Messi and Angel Fabian di Maria both adding goals for the side. And the only goal Germany was able to score (besides the own goal) was in the 81st minute when the match was out of reach.
Argentina controlled the ball for 61 percent of the match, getting off 12 shots, including six on goal. Germany got off 11 shots, including four on goal.
The better side was clearly Argentina on Wednesday, although it should be noted that it was only a friendly and that Germany will certainly put a higher level of talent on the field when it means something.
