Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Players Wenger Must Bring in Before Window Shuts

Arsenal fans have had a difficult offseason to say the least.

Striker Robin van Persie has signed a four-year deal to play with Manchester United. Van Persie led the Premier League with 30 goals last season, winning the 2011-12 Professional Footballers' Association player of the year award.

In addition, it appears that midfielder Alex Song may be on the move to Barcelona, according to an article on independent.co.uk.

Song led Arsenal with 11 assists in the 2011-12 season.

With the departure of the team's top scorer, and possibly its leading assist-man, manager Arsene Wenger will need to make key additions in order for Arsenal to remain competitive.

Eurosport columnist Jim White said that Arsenal, which has served as a "feeder club" before, will survive. However, the question is whether surviving will be enough to please some of the league's hungriest fans.

Here are two potential additions that would keep them satisfied and allow the team to stay in the upper echelon of the Premier League standings.

Adrian Lopez (Striker)

In no way does Atletico Madrid's Adrian Lopez have the star power and scoring ability of van Persie, but then again, maybe nobody does.

Lopez had seven goals for Atletico last season and has seemed to catch the eye of Wenger, according to an article on metro.co.uk.

The article reports that Arsenal is prepared to offer £10 million for Lopez, though Atletico has held strong that it will not accept anything below £14.5 million.

Arsenal scouts watched Lopez play on numerous occasions last season, according to the reports. He won't make up for the loss of the Gunners' top scorer, but Lopez to Arsenal would be a quality addition.

Nuri Sahin (Midfielder)

Arsenal fans don't want to see Song go, but if he does, Nuri Sahin would be a nice substitute.

Sahin was hampered by injuries last year in his first season with Real Madrid, playing in only four games. However, the 23-year-old midfielder still has much in the tank.

Sahin played the best soccer of his career in the 2010-11 season, registering six goals and eight assists in league play with Borussia Dortmund.

He currently has a £10 million transfer fee, but Arsenal surely has the money to afford him.

According to an article on theweek.co.uk, Sahin was prepared to sign a deal with Liverpool, but has held steady in a wait to see if Song's departure opens up a spot for him on the Arsenal roster.

Sahin would reportedly prefer a move to Arsenal. While Song is a great player, the Gunners can't go wrong if they bring in Sahin as his replacement.
