The next target on our transfer deadline countdown is soon-to-be ex-Cottager Clint Dempsey. Fulham and Martin Jol are not pleased by the way Brendan Rodgers has gone about courting their leading goal scorer.

Much has been made about the American star completing a move to Liverpool all summer long, but nothing has come of it thus far. With the transfer deadline looming and Dempsey and Fulham management at odds, we're very likely to see a resolution to this saga in the next few days.

If the 29-year-old does indeed make his way to Anfield, he shouldn't have too much trouble finding first-team action in Brendan Rodgers' system.

Let's break down Dempsey and see what he'll bring with him.

Attitude

Dempsey is not the type to take anything lying down and is not afraid to get in anyone's face for any reason. He carries himself like a man on a mission; a mission to destroy whatever has the misfortune of getting in his way.

The man is the physical embodiment of the term "fierce" in "fierce competitor". He's not afraid to display his physical and mental toughness, and that type of personality is severely lacking on Liverpool's front line.

Positioning

Dempsey's versatile skill set makes him easy to play in a number of forward positions. In Rodgers' system, he could line up as a winger on either side, a central attacking midfielder or even as a center forward.

His knack for being in the right place at the right time is more than just coincidence. He's had success everywhere he's gone in his senior career, and consistency is as much of his game as any other aspect. Consistency is another quality severely lacking at Anfield.

Creativity

The Furman alum's ability to create something from nothing has lifted his sides, both club and country, to numerous victories over the years.

He's a much better dribbler than he gets credit for and is not afraid to take on any defender on the pitch. This can be a bit of an Achilles' heel for him as he often loses possession, but Rodgers will no doubt be pleased by the American's overflowing confidence.

That confidence and desire to make an impact on the game is likely to spill over to the rest of the squad. Rodgers has to create a winning mentality in the clubhouse, and that starts with confidence. Dempsey will bring that in spades.

Knack for Goal

Liverpool was found wanting of goals last season, and that more than anything resulted in a subpar finish. Dempsey scored 17 goals in the Premiere League last season compared to a grand total of 47 for the entire Reds squad.

Discounting his first season with Fulham, where he had one goal in 12 appearances, Dempsey appeared in at least 40 games in each of the last five seasons. His goal-scoring improved year after year, and last season he bagged 23 for the Cottagers, including his first Premier League hat trick.

Rodgers is desperate for a goal poacher, and Dempsey is tailor-made for that role.

We'll see what happens with Dempsey in the coming days. Could be today, tomorrow or next week, but a resolution to this ongoing saga is getting closer with each passing day. Dempsey has been on the Reds' radar all summer long, and Fenway Sports Group would do well to bring America's best player to build its growing fanbase stateside.

Transfer Recap

Yesterday, we broke down Nuri Sahin as reports came out that he might be heading to Liverpool instead of Arsenal after all. The latest report, according to Goal.com, has the rising star ready to undergo the standard medical exam for Liverpool later today.

As with all rumors, take that with a grain of salt, since it was only yesterday that the Independent reported Sahin had completed Arsenal's medical exam

Let's hope for Sahin's sake that he can get out of the doctor's office(s) and back on the pitch soon.

Don't you just love transfer time in the Premier League?
