Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Gunners Must Sign Yohan Cabaye to Replace Alex Song

Arsene Wenger isn’t finished just yet.

Or at least, he better not be.

According to the latest Arsenal transfer rumors, whether or not Wenger will make another move before the transfer window closes is up in the air.

He already reeled in Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla this summer, but following the departure of Robin van Persie, the Gunners could definitely use another injection of talent.

That is, if they want to compete with Manchester United and Manchester City.

RVP isn’t the only footballer not returning in 2012; midfielder Alex Song will depart for Barcelona as well.

Paul Jiggins of The Sun reported that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes Song won’t be missed—basically, because he’s there to fill the void. He said:

Alex Song was a great player for us and he was a big player for us—but we’ve got a strong enough squad. I’m definitely confident of that and I’m definitely confident of filling Alex’s role.

While the 19-year-old is extremely promising, would it really be wise to lean on him so early? A couple veterans that would be able to make a greater impact this season would be Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote.

Simon Jones of the Daily Mail reported that Wenger is indeed interested in making another splash before September, but Tiote isn’t in his plans. He said:

I’m pleased with what I have, but yes I anticipate that we will do something. Defensive midfielder? It depends on the quality of the players available. Tiote is a good player, but he's not on the way to Arsenal.

Jones threw Cabaye’s name into the discussion as a player Wenger is targeting. And such an acquisition would make sense.

The 26-year-old French midfielder possesses the Premier League experience needed to make an instant impact on Arsenal. The Gunners shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.
