Samuel Eto'o Refuses to Play for Cameroon National Team Again

Samuel Eto'o has no plans to return to Cameroon national team despite being capped for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cape Verde Islands on September 8.

The Anzhi Makhachkala striker issued a statement through his website announcing his decision.

The national team environment is still made up of amateurism and bad management, which do not suit the requirements for high-level sport.

The Cameroon Football Federation suspended Eto’o for 15 games when he participated in a players' strike last year.

The footballers refused to appear in a friendly against Algeria because the Federation didn't pay the corresponding bonuses and appearance fees of two games (against Morocco and Sudan).

The organization said Samuel was "violating the internal regulations of the national team relating to loyalty and obligation of participating in a match."

The Algerian Football Federation received $500,000 from Cameroon's federation as a compensation for damages following the strike.

Samuel's ban was reduced to eight games when the country's president, Paul Biya, asked the Federation to reconsider the punishment.

The Indomitable Lions will have to go on without the team's top scorer although he has been cleared to play with the national team. 

Eto'o assured that “the flaws I kept denouncing as a captain have not been solved.” So we will have to wait for the Federation's response and hope for a possible solution to the footballer's requests.
