Theo Walcott: Wenger thinks winger will stay at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is confident Theo Walcott will remain at Arsenal, insisting the winger is not motivated by money.

The England player, 23, indicated he could leave by rejecting a five-year deal worth £75,000 a week.

But Wenger believes there will be a resolution and Walcott, with one-year left on his contract, will stay.

"He is not obsessed by money," said the Gunners boss. "There is just a little difference. We want to extend his contract. I think Theo loves the club."

Further talks are planned in the weeks ahead, with both parties having made a commitment to work towards a resolution.

Walcott, who played for England in Euro 2012, joined Arsenal from Southampton for £12.5m as a 16-year-old in 2006.

He has scored 42 goals in 222 appearances and won 28 England caps during his time at the club.

    So European Champion, World Cup winner Santi Cazorla is on 80k a week, Theo 'won nothing' Walcott thinks he deserves 100k. Jog on. Sell him to the first mugs to come along and replace him.

    Theo Walcott seems to be suffering from a very particular delusion that effects alot of young-ish English footballers..money grabbing without ability. Walcott has not improved over the last 3 years and is very one dimensional he really wouldnt be much of a loss to Arsenal. Man City must be mad if they think this is a good option, the trouble is theres more money than sense floating about in the PL

    So £ 75,000 per week for a guaranteed 5 year contract is worth just shy of £ 20,000,000 over the period of the contract.
    Yes, that's right, 20 MILLION and it's still not enough.

    Surely Walcott does not deserve to earn more than Vermalen , Arteta Podolski, Cazorla who are not making 100 k per week.Let him go, not good enough !

    As an Arsenal fan, it's not pleasant to see the team being gradually eroded away (actaully, more of a landslip). However, I do respect the position Arsenal are trying to maintain - each player has his value, none is bigger than the team (RVP last season aside). The unfortunate thing is that other clubs don't operate in this way, so greedy players will get their money.

    How long can Walcott live on people saying he is a great prospect he either needs to staert to show he can cut it or the top level or just live with the fact he is an average player who happens to have a bit of pace. May as well sign Usain Bolt and stick him upfront

    None of the EPL Champions league teams are going to want him. He's not good enough. I'd let his contract run down. He's not a Van Persie or a Fabregas and he's not worth £75,000 p/w. I'd make him take a pay cut or leave. At this stage he's worth more to Arsenal as a transfer fee.

    On what grounds do you deserve a pay increase? Other than the brace against Spurs last year, I cannot think of a single thing you have done that has lit up the Arsenal faithfulls hearts. You are symptomatic of what is wrong with modern football, underachieving average players with hard nosed agents demanding all the money in the world. Still I guess you learnt about greed from the Arsenal board.

    Anyone thinking offering Theo £75k P/W is UNDERrating him, is delusional...
    He's a nice kid, who had a lot of potential, but this has amounted to nothing noteworthy.
    He's massively improved since he joined, that's undeniable, but I agree with other comments in the fact that he's just a mid-table (Fulham, Stoke, WBA, Norwich, Swansea etc...) player...

    I have pace but cant dribble without getting the ball stuck between my legs, i cant cross a ball and more times than not and it ends up nowhere near where i wanted it to go, i also only score about 1 in every 10 chances i have.....and i am a moany little scrotum that has the cheek to shout at my team mates for any stray passes when my passing and 1st &2nd touch is laughable......75k a week...pfft

    How dare they offer a 23 year old £75,000 per week for kicking a round piece of leather about, its an absolute disgrace; how is the lad going to make ends meat.

    After tax he will still make over £2,000,000 per year and thats before he gets paid for sponsors, adverts etc...i tell you what Theo and your greedy agent...come over to Afghanistan with us Soldiers for £400 per week.

    Wow, this mug is worse than Cashley, who was and still is world class at least. Theo on his day can terrorise defences, but he has about three days a season. Ship him off, we won't miss him at all.

    I wouldn't want Theo to 'almost crash his car' [copyright A.Cole] but.....
    He's a one-trick pony that has not developed. His progress in the PL
    is poor e.g compared to Ronaldo who started about same time but built his game from single trick to a box full. Show TW the door there won't be many takers - Rangers or Malaga on loan. Cut his wages Arsene and tell him to grow up.

    @deluded liverpool fan: I'm sorry but you're misinformed. The Glazers haven't cleared most of United's debt, hence the stock market floatation for almost half of the proposed share price. They realise the debt needs to be cleared before FIFA's Financial Fair Play rules come into play. And according to Lord Alan Sugar, the only club being run in the correct manner is Arsenal...and he's a Spurs fan.
