European Team of the Week

A weekend packed with football has drawn to a close and there have been some really outstanding performances from around Europe's biggest leagues.

Hat tricks, spectacular saves and much more have made this a particularly exciting round of action. That means there is no shortage of players deserving of a berth in the European team of the week.

Given that the pool of players to choose from is so massive, there will inevitably be players with a case for inclusion who haven't made the side. So, please do make your own teams in the comment section below and get the debate started!

Atalanta's Andrea Consigli had a busy outing against Cagliari. The Italian goalkeeper saved two penalties in ten minutes and continued to keep his side in the game until he was stretchered off after colliding with a teammate.

The fact Consigli kept out Cagliari so effectively was especially impressive given that his side spent much of the match with only 10 players on the pitch. 

His first penalty save was outstanding, somehow getting down to his left to make a difficult save. 

Barcelona's Adriano scored a wonderful curled goal from just outside the box to give his side a 1-0 win over Valencia at the Nou Camp.

Adriano looked dangerous whenever he was on the ball and kept João Pereira on the defensive all evening. 

When he was required to defend he did so confidently, and helped prevent Valencia from really troubling Victor Valdes' goal.

AC Ajaccio's Carl Medjani helped his side to a 2-0 win over Evian with a solid defensive performance that kept Evian from producing many real chances. 

The Algerian also managed to get himself on the scoresheet, jumping highest to head home in the first half. 

The Corsican's currently find themselves in seventh place in Ligue 1. That puts them above the mighty Paris Saint-Germain. They will certainly be hoping to keep up their good form as they seek to avoid another relegation battle at the end of this season. 

A solid defence will go a long way to helping that cause and Algerian international Medjani will have a vital role to play in that department. 

Arsenal are yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this season; an impressive record when you consider their defensive frailties last season.

Centre-back Thomas Vermaelen has had a lot to do with that success. Against Liverpool he dealt with Suarez confidently and successfully, keeping the Uruguayan out of the game for long periods.

Arsenal's captain has an important motivational role to play and his good performances will be going a long way to helping the Arsenal squad forget about the players they have lost and focus on achieving success on the pitch. 

Malaga's Eliseu Pereira provided the assist for his side's only goal in their 1-0 win against Zaragoza and had several good efforts getting forward from defence, including a shot from outside the box that was well saved in the second half.

Pereira almost had an assist in the first half, putting in a fantastic cross that really should have been converted after beating his man on the wing. 

Abou Diaby might not have scored or got any assists, but the 26-year-old dominated the match against Liverpool.

With a display reminiscent of Patrick Vieira or Yaya Toure, Diaby was everywhere for the Gunners. He broke up play when Arsenal were defending, moved the ball out of defence with simple, safe passes and then started attacking moves from inside Liverpool's half.

The Frenchman looked confident on the ball, but played selflessly, offloading the ball whenever someone was in a better position. 

Two key passes and a 91 percent pass accuracy rate made for a highly impressive display from the injury plagued midfielder. If he can stay fit, Arsenal will be confident of a successful season.  

Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos scored with a stunning shot from outside the box in Munich's 6-1 demolition of Stuttgart and seemed to be back to the form he showed before last season's Champions League final.

There is a lot of competition in midfield at Bayern, and Kroos will have to keep working hard if he is to keep a spot in the German giant's starting lineup. 

Regardless, Kroos has helped get Munich off to an excellent start in the Bundesliga as the Bavarian's look to get back among the silverware this season. 

Roma pulled off a 3-1 win against Inter Milan last weekend and 21-year-old Alessandro Florenzi had a lot to do with that triumph. 

The Italian grabbed the opening goal with a header and proved to be a potent threat on the right wing for the Romans.

Roma's victory suggests that they could be a surprise contender for the Serie A title this season. Whilst Florenzi may not be a regular starter, he is a part of a crop of young players giving Roma fans a lot of hope for the future.

Bayern Munich ran out 6-1 winners over Stuttgart with Thomas Muller scoring twice and providing an assist for the Bavarians.

Neither of his goals were of the highest quality; the first was a close range finish after his first effort had been saved, and his second was a header into an open goal. However, in both instances he reacted quickest to chances and didn't waste his opportunities.

His cross for Bastian Schweinsteiger's goal, Bayern's sixth, was perfectly weighted and merely added to an impressive display that suggests Munich, and Muller, could have a very productive season. 

AC Milan's Giampaolo Pazzini, who signed over the summer from Inter Milan, grabbed himself a hat trick against Bologna to give his side a 3-1 win.

Pazzini first won and converted a penalty before pouncing on a loose ball to put his side ahead once more before finally redirecting a shot to cap an impressive first start for the Italian.

The 28-year-old looks to be a good poacher and AC Milan could really use the goals the former Sampdoria man looks to be able to supply. 

There's a reason Manchester United signed Robin van Persie, and that reason was pretty evident against Southampton.

The ex-Arsenal striker is used to winning games by himself and bagged himself three goals to save United from an embarrassing defeat against Southampton.

He also won a penalty, although he missed it after coming over all Andrea Pirlo. However, there is no doubt that without RVP's exertions, Sir Alex Ferguson's hair dryer would have been in overdrive.
