Everton strengthened their squad quite a lot this summer, but there are some players the club should look to add in January.

The Toffees have had a solid start to the season and are aiming for a European spot this season.

Despite the club's additions this summer, there are still areas in the squad that could use some depth and that would give Everton a really good chance of attaining their goal.

Here are six players the Toffees should look to capture in January.

Landon Donovan

Considering their history with the player in the last few season, Everton is sure to make a move for Landon Donovan during the January window.

Whether or not his move will be the usual loan deal or a full-time transfer is yet to be seen.

Landon Donovan has made an impact in each of the two seasons he has spent at Everton and would certainly do so again should he arrive.

He could play either out wide or up top if necessary and would more than likely continue the productivity that saw him have six assists last season, as well as two goals and three assists in his first outing. (Statistics courtesy of ESPN Soccernet)

The Daily Mail revealed that Phil Neville tried to his hardest to persuade the American to join the club this summer. And Donovan himself has spoken about his willingness to return to the club. (h/t ESPN Soccernet)

Grant Hanley

Everton's best options in central defense are currently Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin and John Heitinga. While that is a very solid and experienced trio, Everton could do with one more player to add depth to the squad.

Blackburn's Grant Hanley has decent Premier League experience and would provide a younger option than these three players.

According to The Daily Mail, David Moyes was interested in Hanley at one point this summer.

Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe

Everton could also return for Belgian midfielder Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe in January after FIFA blocked the club's attempt to sign him before the deadline (via Sky Sports).

Odjidja-Ofoe's arrival would certainly help the team in terms of central midfield depth, as he can play a variety of roles in the area. Fellow Belgian Vincent Kompany believes he is a top player and that Everton would do well to secure a deal in January (via LiverpoolEcho).

Johnny Russell

Johnny Russell is another player on this list who has been linked to Everton in the past.

Russell has been in solid form with Dundee United during the last few seasons. He  had a decent return of 13 goals and six assist last season.

Russell would have to contend for a starting spot against the likes of Nikica Jelavic and Victor Anichebe while providing some good depth for the club up top.

Artur Boruc

Artur Boruc is a player who Everton could actually make a move for before January, as he is currently a free-agent (via The Daily Mail).

Boruc has plenty of experience with British football, having spent five seasons at Celtic. Tim Howard is the undisputed No. 1 at the club, but an injury to him would see Jan Mucha as the only real backup option.

Boruc would provide a solid option off the bench for the club.

Jack Butland

Another option for the Toffees, Jack Butland, would provide even further prove of Everton's ambitions moving forward.

The club was linked to Birmingham City's Butland late in the transfer window and should try to renew their interest in January (via Sky Sports).

Butland has attracted the attention of teams like Liverpool and Manchester City, who would certainly provide serious competition for the Toffees.
