Word out of Catalonia is that Tim Krul is a wanted man.

Question is, would the Dutch keeper really go to Barcelona just to sit on the bench?

Barcelona have identified Newcastle keeper Tim Krul as a transfer target, according to the Daily Mirror.

Krul, 24, would be signed as a backup for Victor Valdes. Barca's current backup is 36-year-old Jose Pinto.

Krul, who has won four senior caps with the Netherlands, came through Newcastle's youth system before spending time on loan with Falkirk and Carlisle United.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has revealed he would have joined Real Madrid in 2011 but had "no option but to join City" (via ESPN FC).

Aguero, 24, joined City from Atletico Madrid for £38 million in the summer of 2011. Reports suggested he would not be willing to sign for Real Madrid.

Those reports were not true, according to Aguero.

If Real Madrid had been interested in me, then I would be here. I had no option but to join City. I want to take this opportunity to refute the information where I supposedly said that I would never play for Real Madrid because I played at Atletico. It was published in an English newspaper.

Aguero scored 23 league goals in his first season with City.

In other Manchester City news, Patrick Vieira has said the club will no longer spend heavily in the transfer market (via talkSPORT).

Vieira, who serves as a football development executive for City, said: "In the past we spent money because we wanted to build a successful team quickly. When you want to bring in big-name players you have to spend money."

Vieira also stressed the importance of developing talent inside the club.

City have spent more than £400 million on new players since Sheikh Mansour took over as owner in 2008.

Former England international forward Emile Heskey is headed to Australia, according to Metro.

The paper cites unspecified "reports" that claim Heskey has agreed to sign with Australia's Newcastle Jets on a one-year deal.

Heskey, 34, most recently played for Aston Villa. He represented England 62 times, scoring seven goals.

Reading manager Brian McDermott has attempted to ease potential unrest in his dressing room after a Twitter outburst from the girlfriend of goalkeeper Adam Federici (via The Independent).

Federici was benched for Reading's loss to Tottenham over the weekend. The Australian keeper has made a number of errors this season.

Federici's girlfriend complained about the decision on her Twitter account, which has since been deleted.

McDermott said:

If there is Twitter stuff going on and there are emotional messages then there is not a lot I can do about that. I'm not one of these managers that says you will get fined £1,000 for going on Twitter.

Reading sit 19th in the Premier League table with one point through three matches.
