Rating the Liverpool Players Against Udinese

Liverpool came out 1-0 victors at the Stadio Friuli thanks to a Jordan Henderson goal, but what marks did you give the the Reds' players out of 10?

There were several impressive performances, and even Stewart Downing put in a decent display as Brendan Rodgers' side marched on to the knockout stages of the competition.

Pepe Reina: 7/10

Udinese may have surrendered this game by putting out a sub-par team, but the Liverpool goalkeeper was still made to work.

He pulled off a number of top-class saves to keep the Reds' sheet clean in the first half, including an athletic effort to tip a dipping effort over the bar.

The second half was a quiet affair for the Spaniard, but his concentration never wavered.

Glen Johnson: 7/10

A good performance for the England international, but it's a shame his teammates didn't really notice it.

He made several excellent runs down the right flank, but was largely ignored or bypassed. It opened things out for his colleagues, though, so his running benefited Jordan Henderson and freed up the space for him to use.

Martin Skrtel and Jamie Carragher: 7.5/10

Mathias Ranegie is a big man, but Skrtel and Carragher did a great job of nullifying his influence on the game.

They formed a solid, unbeatable duo, and the only scare occurred in the final 10 seconds of the match. Carragher's career is winding down, but Brendan Rodgers will be delighted he can count on the Anfield legend for games like this.

Jose Enrique: 6/10

Moving back to his regular, natural left-back spot, Jose Enrique put in a pretty decent shift. He was never truly troubled by Roberto Pereyra or Diego Fabbrini.

The attacking portion was mostly handled by Stewart Downing, leaving Enrique to put in three tackles and two interceptions.

Jordan Henderson: 8/10*

Hendo started on the right of the midfield three and put in a Man of the Match* performance.

His goal was a just reward for a storming show, showing positive tendencies and high energy levels that gave Udinese's midfielders hell.

Jonjo Shelvey: 7/10

Shelvey came on very early for Nuri Sahin, so the Turk gets an N/A score.

The Englishman was very impressive alongside Henderson, running hard, creating space and opening up opportunities.

Another solid showing in a competition that has been so good to him.

Joe Allen: 7/10

Allen did nothing particularly spectacular, but that's not really his job, is it?

We measure the Welshman in the only way possible: He completed 96 passes as the midfield metronome, good for a 94 percent completion rate.

Suso: 6/10

Suso put in what was probably his best performance in a Liverpool shirt so far this season.

He grabbed an assist, which is always nice, but it was his overall play that impressed the most. He looks much more mature than he did a month ago, and his decision-making process has vastly improved.

Luis Suarez: 7/10

The Uruguayan put in another impressive shift and could have easily scored a brace here.

In the end, it was pure heroics from Daniele Padelli that stopped him for bagging a hugely deserved goal, running the channels well and getting into the right positions. 

Stewart Downing: 6.5/10

The former Aston Villa winger was restored to his natural left-wing position after a recent failed experiment at left-back.

He gets a lot of stick—primarily because he consistently performs poorly—but tonight was a different story. He looked comfortable, positive and eager to make the most of his chance, delivering good balls and remaining reliable in possession.

The only substitute used—aside from the early forced change—was Raheem Sterling.

He came on for 20 minutes, replacing Suso and doing a solid job. At this point, Brendan Rodgers' focus had switched to the retention of the lead, but the young English winger was still committing the odd unforced, needless error.

His clever movement earned Giovanni Pasquale a second yellow card to make it even more comfortable for the Reds.
