Joleon Lescott has ruled out any chance of him seeking a move away from Manchester City to Everton, Aston Villa or anywhere else this month.

The England international has found his first-team opportunities at the Etihad Stadium few and far between this term, with reports linking him with several Premier League sides including Aston Villa, QPR and his former club.

But in a statement released on the centre-back’s behalf, Lescott said he is determined to stay and fight for his place at City.

‘Joleon Lescott has ruled out the possibility of any loan move during the January transfer window,’ said the statement.

‘Despite speculation linking him with several Premier League clubs, Joleon has no desire to leave Manchester City.’

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert said yesterday he would be interested in a move for the 30-year-old, hoping Lescott’s childhood allegiance to the Villans would persuade him to move to the Midlands.

But it appears any thoughts of a January transfer away from Manchester City will now be quashed.
