EPL Promotion Watch: Watford Continues Climb Up the Table

After a hectic week of FA Cup play, the full slate of Championship matches took place on Saturday. 

The most impressive result of the weekend came at Vicarage Road as Watford moved up to fourth place with a 2-1 victory over Bolton.

Matej Vydra and Almen Abdi scored a goal each in the Hornets' fourth win in five matches. 

With the win, Gianfranco Zola's club kept pace with Hull City and Leicester City in the table.

Both Hull and Leicester came out on top on Saturday as the Tigers took down Millwall while the Foxes defeated Wolverhampton.

David Meyler scored in the first minute of the match to give the Tigers their 16th win of the season.

Leicester City took to the pitch on Thursday at the King Power Stadium and were the beneficiaries of David Nugent's 73rd minute winner as they took down Wolves, 2-1.

As for league leaders Cardiff City, they went on the road and took down Leeds United at Elland Road by a 1-0 score. 

Frazier Campbell scored in the 64th minute to earn the 20th win of the season for the Bluebirds.

Crystal Palace won their first match since New Year's Day to avoid dropping further down the table. 

Glenn Murray added to his league-leading goal total, which is now 22, by scoring both of Crystal Palace's goals in their 2-1 win at Selhurst Park. 

At the bottom of the top six, Middlesbrough suffered a 4-0 defeat on the road at Ipswich Town. 

Next week, the marquee matchup of the weekend takes place on Friday night when Watford hosts Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road. 

The rest of the 22 clubs in the Championship will play on Saturday with Hull City visiting Brighton and Hove Albion being the game to watch. 

Here is how the Championship table looks at the moment. The top two clubs will earn automatic promotion to the EPL while the clubs in third through sixth place will compete in a four-club playoff for the third and final promotion spot.
