Tottenham are apparently ready to throw their hats in the race to acquire Christian Benteke this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Aston Villa striker, who moved to Villa Park from Genk for £8 million this past summer, has gotten off to a flying start in the first few months of his Premier League career, scoring 15 goals in just 28 appearances and sitting tied for seventh amongst the Premier League's top scorers.

At 22 years of age, the Belgian would be a huge asset to Spurs' future endeavors, as the North London club have found themselves quite thin at the striker position.

After all, the club has just two recognized, experienced strikers in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, a situation whose precarious nature was proven over the last few weeks through Defoe's injury and Adebayor's late return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

On the financial side of the matter, Villa boss, Paul Lambert has made it clear that the striker's value has more than doubled since the club signed him, valuing the striker at over £16 million.

However, with Villa being in the midst of a relegation battle, that price could drop quite a bit should the club find themselves in the Championship next term.

To complicate matters, though, Benteke has already been linked with moves to other Premier League clubs, such as Manchester City and Arsenal.

Still, Tottenham would probably offer the Belgian the most promising package between the top few clubs, with regular football a distinct possibility and, if all goes well over the next few months, the promise of Champions League football.

This is all months away from coming into fruition, but the prospect of Christian Benteke taking his talents to White Hart Lane is one Tottenham supporters can get excited about.
