Jordi Alba gave Real Madrid fans the finger while celebrating Leo Messi’s goal

In the second Clasico of the last five days, Real Madrid picked up right where they left off in their 3-1 second-leg win at Barcelona on Tuesday to advance to the Copa del Rey final. Karim Benzema opened the decidedly less important La Liga edition with a goal in the sixth minute, but Lionel Messi was able to snap his inexcusable streak of one whole match without a goal by scoring in the 18th minute. (UPDATE: Real Madrid won 2-1 with an 82nd minute goal from Sergio Ramos.)

As Barcelona celebrated the equalizer, Jordi Alba was caught giving the Bernabeu what looked like a middle finger salute. This, of course, was met by immediate outrage in certain corners of the Internet.

So what was Alba reacting to? Take a look at the crowd right behind the celebratory group hug...

I'm counting at least six middle fingers from the crowd in that picture alone (plus a pair of horns). As a professional, Alba should be able to hold back the urge to retaliate. Then again, this is apparently a guy who still gets driven to training by his dad everyday.

UPDATE: After the match, Alba denied making any gesture to the Madrid fans (via Football Espana):

“I have not made any gestures to the Real Madrid fans,” he told reporters after the game. “I have not done a thing."

Middle, index or hand tail, that was definitely a gesture aimed at a section full of home supporters.

UPDATE II: Here's another angle on Alba's gesture. Index it is!

So, more "top of the table" than obscene, but the sentiment isn't much different.
