Barcelona's 5 Most Dominant Victories This Season

In what has certainly been an entertaining season for Barcelona, there have been all forms of tears shed. Tears of pain. Tears of loss. Tears of worry. But most importantly, there have been countless tears shed in joy and pride.

La Blaugrana have already won an impressive 36 matches this season. But there are always those wins that stand out above the rest.

In this article we will take a look at the five most dominant wins for the Catalans this season, and not surprisingly, they all took place at the Camp Nou.

Each victory represented on this list makes its claim based on a few factors.

Newly appointed manager Tito Vilanova faced off with public enemy Jose Mourinho in what may soon come to be known as his “opening act” as Barcelona’s boss.

Images of the infamous eye poke were displayed around the world as many questioned whether or not Vilanova was ready to take on the master tactician of Real Madrid. Not only did Tito handle himself like a true winner, but he also had Barcelona prepared to win.

The Catalans allowed the opening goal to Cristiano Ronaldo despite controlling the first half. But Pedro immediately answered back, followed by Lionel Messi and Xavi.

Had the game ended there, it might have finished as high as second on our list of biggest wins.

But a mistake by Victor Valdes allowed Real Madrid to pull a goal back late in the game. From there, Real Madrid lifted the Spanish Supercup a week later mostly due to the late goal from a saddening mistake.

Though the end result of La Liga’s opening tournament did not favor Barcelona, it was a defining moment for Tito Vilanova.

The Catalan derby is always a big deal despite Barcelona’s clear strength compared to their neighbors Espanyol. In January, the two sides met at the Camp Nou and La Blaugrana made a statement.

Barcelona pulled away with four goals in less than 30 minutes of play. Cules wondered how many goals would actually come that night, but more were not needed.

La Blaugrana dominated in every aspect of the match, as the final scoreline read 4-0.

With the game over so quickly, Lionel Messi and company gave the fans a show with intricate passing and beautiful Tiki-Taka play.

Though some will argue that Barcelona should have scored more, there was clear respect shown in this derby. For Barcelona, it was a statement that didn’t need to be made: “We are Catalonia."

Whenever the schedules are released, one match fans always look forward to is a meeting with Athletic Bilbao. The Basque side holds a lot in common with Barcelona, such as youth academy strength and state pride.

So when Bilbao entered the Camp Nou in December for the first meeting since Barcelona crushed them in the Copa del Rey finals last season, Cules were ready.

La Blaugrana did not disappoint, as they gave one of the most incredible showings of the season on the way to a 5-1 victory (via Goal).

Lionel Messi found the back of the net twice. Gerard Pique, Adriano and Cesc Fabregas all scored. But most importantly, it was an amazing team performance.

When the final whistle blew, everyone watching knew they had just witnessed pure dominance.

Meetings between Barcelona and Getafe are usually very entertaining. But none may have been more exciting for Cules than the six-goal thriller at the Camp Nou in February.

What made this victory even more dominant than the amount of goals scored was the way it happened.

Each of the six goals was struck by a different player. Alexis Sanchez, Lionel Messi, David Villa, Cristian Tello, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique all got in on the action.

But not only was the offense firing on all cylinders; the defense also put on a masterful display. The match would have been perfect had it not been for Jordi Alba's error that led to Getafe's only goal.

By the end of the match, there was a party going on at the Camp Nou and every Cule was part of the festivities. 

When Atletico Madrid entered the hallowed Camp Nou in December, it was their chance to prove that they were truly contenders for the La Liga title. But Barcelona quickly saw off their rivals and thrilled fans along the way.

The game began in exciting fashion. La Blaugrana seemed to control everything, but Atletico looked deadly with every counterattack.

Eventually, Radamel Falcao opened the scoring and fans began to wonder how the rest of the game would play out.

From there, Adriano became a hero with an insane strike to level the score. Sergio Busquets then put Barcelona up at the half-time whistle before Lionel Messi netted twice to seal the deal at 4-1.

The Catalans never looked shaken for a second in this match. Barcelona played as if it was a final, and everyone clearly saw that La Blaugrana would not be rivaled for the title this season. 

Let’s be honest, who didn’t expect this to take the top spot?

Barcelona made history when they overturned a two-goal deficit at home to advance to the next stage of the Champions League. AC Milan entered the Camp Nou with all the advantage in the world, but Barca would not be denied.

The victory had it all. Four stunning goals were scored. Lionel Messi put on an inhuman display. A clean sheet was secured. History was made.

In the win of the ages, Barcelona looked like the team that the world has grown to fear over the last few years. The attack was menacing, the passing was beautiful and the pressure was intense.

When the world began to doubt the Catalans, Barcelona silenced every ill word spoken. It was this win that reminded the world who the best club in history is.

The 4-0 win at the Camp Nou is easily the most dominant display of the season thus far; it may also be one of the most important games in the history of the Catalan club.
