McDermott, O'Neill Favourites for Republic of Ireland Job

1 of 5

Martin O'Neill and Brian McDermott have been listed as favourites to replace Giovanni Trapattoni as Republic of Ireland manager, according to ESPN.

The Italian coach has come under fire yet again for failing to change his team and thus conceding a late equaliser to Austria in the latest round of international fixtures. Constant speculation surrounds "Trap" as to when he will relinquish the reins.

O'Neill, an Ulsterman, and McDermott, an Irishman, are both in contention to take over should a collapse ensue.

Newcastle United sent scout Steve Stone to watch Celtic defender Kevin Wilson in action this weekend, The Mirror has revealed.

Fabricio Coloccini is expected to leave the club during the summer and move back to his native Argentina, opening a sizeable hole in Alan Pardew's defence despite the recruitment of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

The Mirror expect a £5 million bid to be lodged after an impressive showing.

Robert Lewandowski is a man on the move, but as far as his teammates are concerned, the best place for him is still at Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to The Sun, Roman Weidenfeller told of the jokes the squad tell at the Polish striker's expense:

Of course we joke around when we are in different cities in Europe. We make jokes about his next destination but we’re just joking. Honestly, we would like to keep him here.

The best place for Lewandowski is here in Dortmund and we hope to keep him. He grew to become a big player here and he belongs to this team.

Neymar to Extend Contract?

4 of 5

Neymar just toys with the media, doesn't he?

He has revealed his father is handling a possible contract extension with Brasileiro Serie A side Santos, admitting he may well stay in his native country, via ESPN Brazil (h/t SambaFoot.com).

His current contract is set to expire in 2014, and he would be able to leave for free after the FIFA World Cup. But Santos are working on more than quadrupling his paycheck to keep him around.

Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City?

5 of 5

According to The Daily Mail, among others, Alexis Sanchez is interesting Manchester City at a price of £25 million.

Goal.com had reported the Chilean's agent was set for talks with Juventus just a few days previous, while also informing us of Jordi Roura's great admiration for him.

It looks set to be another uncomfortable summer for Alexis, but at least plenty of clubs want his signature.
