Luis Suarez Must Have Monster 2013 Confederations Cup Performance

There are few players who will be more intriguing to watch during the 2013 Confederations Cup than Luis Suarez.

The 26-year-old Uruguayan striker finds himself in a precarious position. It's clear he wants to move away from Liverpool. The Daily Mail's John Edwards reported as much last week. The problem is that Liverpool don't appear to be ready to unload Suarez for what they feel is anything less than fair value. The Guardian's Andy Hunter reported that the figure is in the £40-50 million range.

As a result of his recent revelation, Suarez has gone from hero to goat at Anfield. One supporter even went so far as to burn a shirt with Suarez's name and number on the back.

It's not a foregone conclusion that the striker will leave Liverpool this summer. Considering the massive amount of baggage Suarez carries with him, a potential buyer might not feel a deal is worth the hassle, despite his world-class talent.

Think what it would be like at Liverpool if Suarez suits up in a red shirt at the start of next season.

In order to put himself in the most optimal position to move this summer, Suarez needs to make the most of the Confederations Cup. It's a very high-profile setting during which the eyes of the footballing world will be watching.

It's not as if someone like Real Madrid hasn't already done their due diligence regarding Suarez. Everyone knows he's one of the best strikers in the world.

You could understand, though, if a club might be wary to part with that much money for a player who's serving a 10-match suspension after his second biting offense.

Scoring a couple of critical goals and finishing as one of the tournament's best players would just give that lasting impression of his unbelievable talent. It could be that last bit of convincing Madrid would need.

Looking at it from a national team perspective, Suarez is going to be vital for Uruguay.

He helped them to finish fourth at the 2010 World Cup and then win the 2011 Copa America, but it's been a bit of a different story since then.

As things stand now, Uruguay would miss out on the 2014 World Cup. They sit sixth in CONMEBOL qualification, one spot behind what it will take to force the playoff with the fifth-placed AFC team.

Diego Forlan was an inspirational leader in that Uruguay attack, and they have failed to find somebody to replace him as he's reached the twilight of his career.

Uruguay won't have any time to settle into the tournament as they face Spain in their first match, and after that they meet the reigning African champs, Nigeria. Suarez will have to be on top form in order for his country to simply make it out of the group stage.

Suarez has a great chance to help both himself and his country in a few weeks. It's up to him to make the most of it.
